Budapest has also been ranked as having the best quality of life in Central and Eastern Europe. The city also boasts of several noteworthy universities and colleges, which are certainly worth visiting during your stay in the city.

Hungary's most significant university of technology is the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Founded in 1782, the school was also one of the world's oldest technological institutions. The institution has been restructured several times during its history. In 1967, two

Another noteworthy institute of higher learning in Budapest is the Eotvos Lorand University. This school was founded in 1635, and is the largest university located in Hungary. At the time of its founding, Eotvos Lorand University contained two colleges: The College of Arts and the College of Theology. Later, the colleges of Law and Medicine were added. Then in 1784, the university moved to its current location in Budapest. Interestingly, until 1844 Latin was the nation's language of education. The school received its current name in 1921. Today, Eotvos Lorand university has over 30,000 students, and has been ranked as Hungary's second best university.

A third university worth visiting in Budapest is the Semmelweis University, which is actually the nation's oldest medical school. It was founded in 1969, and became an independent medical school following World War II. The school is named after Ignac Semmelweis, who in the 1840s discovered what caused puerperal fever. Today, Semmelweis University has over 11,000 students from five of the world's continents. It also includes several undergraduate and graduate programs in five faculties.
