Budapest Weather

The Best Seasons to Visit Budapest

When planning a trip, taking the weather conditions into consideration will help ensure that your trip is a pleasant one.  Budapest weather is the typical Mediterranean weather, and the weather is changing and varied throughout the seasons.  Based on what your personal preferences are, anytime is a good time to visit Budapest, but be prepared for the differences in weather.

When is the best time to visit Budapest?  During the spring, summer and early fall is the highest tourist time.  This time of year showcases the adventure found in Budapest.  The winter tends to be grey and dreary during the winter, but there are still a wide variety of indoor attractions.

BUDAPEST IN THE SPRING

Spring in Budapest is much like one imagines spring should be - the buds start to appear on the trees, warm sunshine caresses the ground.  Budapest has an abundance of grasses, flowers and trees, which all come to life in the spring.

During the early part of spring (March and a part of April), the weather might prove to be unpredictable, with spring showers and high winds.  As spring progresses, however, the days get between 68-77F, which is optimal weather for outdoor activities.

While visiting Budapest, there are festivals, cultural attractions, and many sightseeing activities.  The spring weather in Budapest boasts the perfect time of year for many of these activities.

BUDAPEST IN THE SUMMER

During the summer months, Budapest becomes hot and dry.  Temperatures are frequently above 86F, and the buildings absorb the heat, making it warm into the night.  While the heat might be a detriment to some visitors, those who like the night life might enjoy having the warm nights for outdoor attractions and activities.

Visitors will also want to keep an umbrella handy as well, since there is a pattern of sudden showers.  If you are visiting Budapest during the summer, make sure to pack light clothing that will keep you cool.

One of the high points of the long summer season is the abundance of fresh produce.  Visit the fresh markets for the freshest exotic fruits and vegetables available.

BUDAPEST IN THE AUTUMN

September marks the beginning of fall for Budapest.  The weather is still warm, but not scorching, and it is generally still very sunny.  During the next months, the days will start to get shorter, and by November the nights have cooled significantly.

The fall Budapest weather provides the perfect setting for lazy days and a romantic stroll through the city.  Budapest is also still hosting festivals throughout the fall, and there are good opportunities to learn about the city's history throughout the fall.

BUDAPEST IN THE WINTER

The weather in Budapest will vary during the winter, with January being the coldest month statistically.  During January, the average temperature lingers around 32F, freezing.  The nights get even colder.

Snow in Budapest is not a certainty, but occasionally some will dust the landscape.  Even when it does snow, it only stays a couple of days before melting.

The weather is grey and dreary, as the sun retreats during the winter, but Budapest still has plenty of opportunities for inside entertainment, including museum and great food.  If you visit during Christmas, the Budapest Christmas Fair is a must see, and the whole city lights up for the holidays.

GREAT IDEAS WHILE TRAVELING

No matter which season you decide to visit Budapest, you will find a huge variety of attractions.  Consider visiting at least one of the museums, enjoy one of the famous coffee houses for an afternoon snack and cup of coffee, and make sure to go to one of the Budapest spas.  Budapest also offers a wide range of shopping opportunities, from small shops to large malls.

With all four seasons, Budapest is ready to welcome you.  For an experience you will never forget, pick the perfect time for your travel, and find a hotel where you will be able to easily access all the hidden treasures in Budapest.
